Successful Demonstration at Schiphol Airport Showcases Q-Track Indoor Location Capabilities


Q-Track’s NFER® RTLS tracks passengers at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as part of a pilot deployed by the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS).

Huntsville, AL June 19, 2018 — Q-Track today announced that the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS), Greece, completed a successful indoor location pilot using Q-Track’s high-accuracy NFER® Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the main international airport of the Netherlands. ICCS integrated NFER® RTLS products into the “PASSME App,” a combination of personalized device and application, designed to allow passengers to relax and make the best use of their available time at the airport. Evangelos Sdongos of ICCS explains:

ICCS developed a personalized mobile application within the EU project PASSME towards Reducing Journey Times for Air Travel by 60 minutes. One of the building blocks for the success of the App has been indoor localisation of passengers. Q-Track’s equipment has been utilized and successfully provided accurate localisation data to track and trace passengers. This resulted navigating them optimally within airport facilities, hence reducing journey times and enhancing their travelling experience.

Using indoor navigation and up-to-date personalized information from airports and airlines, the PASSME App monitors the stress levels of a passenger wearing the smart wristband, and provides helpful notifications about how best to manage stress and arrive at their gate on time. The PASSME App is a breakthrough on the PASSME project. The PASSME project aims to reduce unwanted door-to-door air travel time in Europe by an hour and to make the airport experience less stressful and more enjoyable for passengers.
